Who are the SIMPLE PROjecters?

The SIMPLE PROjecters are a group of young parishioners whose ages range from 15 to the 20s. We are our parish's young missionaries for prayer, learning and evangelization, who have Blessed Miguel Pro, S.J., as our patron.

What do we want to do?

Specifically, we want to reach out to young people in our parish, especially those who have just completed their Secondary Four Catechism classes, to provide them with an enticing but meaningful option to continue their involvement in the Church during their post-Catechism lives, which, hopefully, will serve to consolidate and strengthen their Catholic faith.

We also want our youth group to provide a channel for prayer, as well as evangelization through the various activities we are currently organizing and hoping to organize in the future. Last, but certainly not the least, we are also a discussion group which learns about issues concerning the various crises faced by the Church, like modernism in the Church, and apologetics (to explain and defend our faith when the need arises), and to have a clearer understanding about the various doctrines and traditions of the Catholic Church that we take for granted sometimes, and expose ourselves to the various Marian apparitions and miracles, such as Eucharistic miracles and stigmatas, that have occured throughout our Church's history, which can help to draw us closer to God.

What is the SIMPLE PROject?

The Church of St Ignatius has finally seen the successful establishment of its latest youth group since our parish was formed back in 1961. The name of our youth group is simple, almost literally. Here's the story...

On the 19th of March (Sunday), one of the group members was thinking of a simple name for the youth group when he stumbled across the idea of having an acronym as a name. Because he wanted the first 2 letters of the acronym to stand for Saint Ignatius, the acronym had to start with "S-I". By a stroke of divine inspiration(presumably, but hopefully), he thought of the word SIMPLE, which stands for Saint Ignatius' Missionaries for Prayer, Learning and Evangelization. Ironically, from such a simple name like SIMPLE came the very long name that you have just seen.

Anyway, this is how he expounded on SIMPLE: "I figured that since we wanted to reach out to people in our parish, we should adopt a kind of missionary role for our youth group. I believe we also want our youth group to provide a channel for prayer, as well as evangelization through the various activities we are currently organizing and hoping to organize in the future. Last, but certainly not the least, I feel our youth group could also be a discussion group where we can learn about issues concerning the various crises faced by the Church, like modernism in the Church, apologetics (to explain and defend our faith when the need arises), have a clearer understanding about the various doctrines and traditions of the Catholic Church that we take for granted sometimes, and expose ourselves to the various Marian apparitions and miracles, such as Eucharistic miracles and stigmatas, that have occured throughout our Church's history, which can help to draw us closer to God.

Finally, since we are the youth of our parish, maybe we can call ourselves the SIMPLE youth, or simply the simple youth of our parish, which I think has a certain element of humility, something required in everything we do, attached to it."

On the following Sunday, during another meeting of our youth group, while the members were unanimously expressing their liking and approval for SIMPLE as our name, as well as for the above explanation of its meaning, Father Leslie Raj, our Spiritual Director, told us that he dreamt of having Blessed Miguel Pro, S.J., as our patron saint. We spontaneously decided to incorporate Miguel's name into the name of our youth group. Coincidentally, someone else had thought of calling ourselves some kind of a "SIMPLE Project", and so, the SIMPLE PROject (with "pro" in block letters) was born, with the blessings of Father Raj.

So, there you have it! In essence, the SIMPLE PROject is the culmination of a collective effort by all the group members to complete the real project of establishing our parish's latest youth group. And long may it live!
